April Lockhart
April Lockhart is a born on July 4th, 1995. As a seventh-grade student she began to take piano and guitar lessons. This ignited her passion for songwriting. At the age of 12 April wrote her first song Different. When she was 14 years old, April was spending a lot of time writing and honed her music skills. The following months, she started taking notes with her father to LA and NY. April also began to include different topics related to some of her friends dealing with such things as bullying by peers and teenage suicide as depicted in the song Take my Hand. Lockhart is also gaining a growing fan base as a lifestyle blogger and works for popular clean beauty company Ilia. The disability she has is part of her personality, but it is not the whole picture. As a result Lockhart's Instagram profile doesn't shy away from her disability, but the focus isn't on her disability either. The point? The message is: We all have numerous identities. We're much far more complicated than we believe we're. Lockhart talks through video from Nashville. "I don't wish for it to dictate my personal life. I don't want to only be recognized as an expert in disabilities. This doesn't influence my day-to-day routine. I go about the same way as I always do and have come up with my own ways to adapt. Because it's an integral part of me It's a topic worth talking about. Lockhart encourages us to keep moving forward with self-acceptance. Yet, she confesses that she has had periods that made her feel uncomfortable about her appearance as well as wearing clothes with arms. Now, though she dons anything she likes and uploads images of her outfits to social media with pride. It's all a process is the most important thing. I'm not certain that will ever be the end about self-love. The same is true for everybody regardless of degree of self-confidence. I think it's important to surround yourself with people who can identify and feel your heart.
